Submission Guidelines

Here at Two With Water we have an open submissions policy, and we continually welcome your (or anyone else’s) unsolicited writing and/or artwork.

In the end we’re just looking to publish some dang-ole-good creations. We welcome work from anywhere in the world. Please do tell us if you are in the Chicago area and want to attend Two With Water readings and fundraisers or help with marketing, advertising, dj-ing, curating, or really anything else you kindly would like to offer us gracious, literary leeches.

FICTION/NONFICTION

  • All material submitted must be original and previously unpublished. All work to be considered must include the author’s name and a current/working email and/or telephone number where the writer can be reached.
  • We really don’t need to see a bio; we’re open to writers of all backgrounds and experience levels. We will ask for more info once we have selected your work for publication.   
  • Stories should be under 5,000 words.
  • Please notify us ASAP if anything you submit is being considered and/or becomes published elsewhere.
  • We will try our best to read each submission thoroughly, so please allow us at least one month before inquiring on the status of your story. If you find that we have been biased and/or too subjective, etc., please send us an e-mail with the sentence “what’s with this crap, yo?” in the subject line.
  • Contributors receive a copy of the print issue of Two With Water featuring their work.
  • Send what you feel is your best work/piece to: submissions(at)twowithwater.com. Please be sure to include the word “submission” somewhere in the subject line.
  • We sometimes pose comments/questions about pieces we enjoy but feel need further development. In such cases we welcome revisions.

    • POETRY

    Send 1-5 poems, following the same basic guidelines outlined above, to submissions(at)twowithwater.com

    ARTWORK

    Please submit 1-5 works. Work should be suitable for print in b&w ink and currently unpublished. Judging art is incredibly difficult and furthermore kind of ridiculous, so let’s keep it as simple as possible, as in, if we like it… then we’ll probably publish it.

    ETC.

    We’re interested in work outside the boundaries of the above categories, such as comics, short plays, satire, and other undefined creative genres. If you have an idea you’d like to run by us, please do! Send all submissions to the email above or contact the editors: amy(at)twowithwater.com and becca(at)twowithwater.com.
